Class Description

In this session, Dr. Jasser will review an understanding of the faith of Islam as well as the current state of affairs regarding the regional and global threat of radical Islam and its militant offshoots across Muslim majority countries in the Middle East, across the region and into the West.  He will review his recent work with the American Islamic Forum for Democracy [AIFD] (www.aifdemocracy.org) and the Muslim Reform Movement [MRM] (www.muslimreformmovement.org) and his efforts to counter the threats of theocratic Islamism (or Political Islam) and its inspirations.

Dr. Jasser will discuss the theological underpinnings, obstacles in the media, government and academia, as well as cultural platforms and other associated radical jihadi streams of thought.  He will also cover associated Islamist links of anti-Semitism, anti-Westernism and efforts to block free speech and religious freedom.  Dr. Jasser will not only look at the problem posed by these ideological security threats but also the solutions possible in our media, government, political, academic and cultural platforms as well as giving the learner a better understanding of the faith of Islam and its practice diversity.
